Harry Potter Movies 1 to 8 (2001-2011)

Based on the famous series of books by J.K. Rowling, these eight Movies Featuring Trains portray a magical fantasy about the young wizard, Harry Potter. He learns he possesses magical powers and attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he’s plunged into a new life filled with plenty of challenges, villains, and triumphs.
But where do the trains come in? On Harry’s first day of school, he has to board the Hogwarts Express, a train located on platform 9 ⅓. It’s only accessible by running – fast- towards the brick wall between platforms 9 and 10. Once aboard the train, he meets Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, who end up being his life-long friends.
Throughout all of the movies, the Hogwarts Express train continues to symbolize the beginning and end of each school year and provides the canvas for some pretty spectacular storylines. Especially that time Harry and Ron missed the train and had the fly an enchanted car to school!
Make sure you download at least one of these movies to your phone or tablet before you book your next train journey.

The Darjeeling Limited (2007)

Quirky and touching, this movie has all the hallmarks of its writer-director, Wes Anderson. After their dad meets an accidental death, three brothers travel across India by train in an attempt to bond.
Played by Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, Jason Schwartzman, each brother is suffering from depression, and a lot of sulking and fights ensue. But of course, being a Wes Anderson movie – there are many comical twists and turns. ONe of the brothers has left his pregnant wife at home and another is estranged from his girlfriend and finds romance with one of the train’s attendant.
There is also a venomous snake, a funeral, a meditation and… well, we won’t give any more away. Let this cult classic inspire you to book your own train adventure.

Murder on the Orient Express (2017)

Based on the famous Agatha Christie novel, this modern remake has a star-studded cast including Judi Dench, Michelle Pfeiffer, Penelope Cruz, Johnny Depp and Willem Dafoe. Kenneth Brannagh is the lead role of Hercule Poirot, and he also directed the film.
Apart from the introduction and some flashbacks, the entire storyline is set on a luxury train. Poirot boards the Orient Express to take a long deserved vacation. In the first class luxury bar and dining car, he meets the group of seemingly unrelated passengers. One of them claims his life is in danger and tries to recruit Poirot – an esteemed detective – to keep him safe.
He refuses, and the passengers all go to bed. The next morning, the passenger is found murdered. To make things more dramatic, the train derails in the snow. Poirot is recruited to solve the crime before the train is back on track and the police become aware of the murder.
In a beautifully told, dramatic mystery thriller, the story unfolds as Poirot interviews each passenger and finds out that each of them has a secret and not all is as it seems.
This is a must-see, not only for the brilliant storyline and first-class acting but also gorgeous scenery and views of the train itself.

The Little Engine That Could (2011)

If you have little adventurers traveling with you, get them excited for the journey with this kid-friendly film. The classic children’s tale comes to life in a full-length movie with a star-studded cast. Celebs featured include Jamie Lee Curtis and Whoopi Goldberg.
The movie follows the Little Engine – a toy train – throughout her adventures in DreamLand, as she interacts with other train characters and toys. There’s a parallel storyline in the real world, where the protagonist is a little boy called Richard. However, these two worlds collide when Richard ends up inside DreamLand. His presence there causes problems, so he needs to go back.  Adventure and hijinks ensue while he and the toys try to get him back into the real world.
What great way to get inspired to travel by train!
